MEET OU ARTIST

BJ Seidel’s Bio:

My first experience with art was drawing cartoons of my children as they grew and developed. I kept family and friends up to date with our lives by sending copies of the monthly cartoons delivering news and laughs. Then I began creating original greeting cards for family events. Now that my children are grown and married, I have grandchildren who provide fresh ideas for painting and drawing. I am also able to travel more and get fresh inspiration everywhere I go. I find inspiration in nature, people watching and fine art galleries.

About Firefly Art

Experiencing the beauty of nature in my travels to other environments and countries inspired me to paint. I wanted to preserve the memories and feelings evoked by the beauty I experienced. I gifted some of these paintings to family and friends and loaned some to small business offices. Owners have commented on how they love the colors, textures and light in my oil paintings. Inspired to do more paintings, I started Firefly Art in 2016 in order to have an outlet for my art.

It is very satisfying to me to help people obtain fine art for their own homes and offices that is uplifting and makes them happy. I think many more people would like original oil paintings if they found paintings to complement their space and personality that were not prohibitively expensive. I especially enjoy doing commissions because of the interaction between the client and myself to get them exactly what they want in a personalized painting or drawing.

Firefly Art is a relatively new company but has had a good working relationship with people who commissioned art or purchased art from it. Return customers and word of mouth recommendations are of great value, as are reviews. In the last two years, Firefly Art has participated in Art Walks and a fund-raising event. It is fun to see the first reactions of visitors viewing my paintings for the first time, as well as the biggest compliment of all–when they purchase and take home a painting that they felt resonated with them.

Painting pictures with other viewers in mind helps me grow as an artist. Looking at the world from another perspective has stretched me and helped me in developing new techniques to get my ideas across.

Firefly Art desires to deliver original fine art paintings and drawings that will be pleasing to customers and add value to their space and lives. It is my hope that they are satisfied customers who will return and find another treasure for themselves or a gift for friends and family.

Commissioned artwork is a wonderful way to preserve a memory of a person or special event. Many times I see a snapshot of a precious moment in time. In a drawing, I can remove all the “background busy-ness” and focus on the special moment. The result is a drawing or painting that will be treasured for years to come. If you have a snapshot but want to record only a certain part of it or make other changes, I can do that in a drawing or painting. (See First Time a Mother)

If someone has a photo of a favorite Aunt or Grandparent she wants reproduced, or a special moment in time-this is something I can draw or paint. (see Generations). I love portraying the honest emotions of children at play or the precious moment as a baby gazes into his parent’s eyes (See Tim and George or First Time a Mother) Babies and children are always great subjects. (Daddy’s Coonskin Cap and First Time a Grandma) I love recreating such moments in graphite drawings. Perhaps someone has a favorite vacation or honeymoon memory he would like to see in a larger format on his wall (see Just The Two of Us). Maybe there is a certain scene or landscape that somebody wants painted that would make her happy to look at in her home or office. It would be my pleasure to paint something special for someone to enjoy. Personalized paintings and drawings also make wonderful gifts. I have also reproduced paintings for people that want another copy of their painting for someone else as a gift. (Villa in Redonderas and Piroa Falls) Look through your favorite photos or take some new ones and contact Firefly Art to explore the possibilities of owning a one-of-a-kind painting.

Challenges for Firefly Art

The internet platform for selling artwork potentially makes it possible to reach a large audience and easy for anyone to market their products. It is exciting to see what is out there as most people do the majority of their shopping online. It is so easy for the consumer to visit many different websites that the possibilities are overwhelming. On the other hand, it is also easy to get lost in all the possibilities. How does one artist compete in this type of market? It is also difficult to balance the making of art with the business side of selling art. Rising costs across the whole economy make the purchasing of art seem superfluous to some consumers. Travel expenses to attend different venues to show art is also a challenge.

Opportunities for Firefly Art

A good website is an absolute necessity (A big Thank-you to Igniting Business for a terrific website) There are multiple other social media available to complement the business              e-commerce website. Again, the internet makes the show venues available to Firefly Art as well as community opportunities.  Other people have expressed an interest in painting workshops.  Exposure to interested parties will certainly help Firefly Art—thank-you Giejo magazine.
